Leading Design (with love)

I began my leadership journey in 2014 when I started growing the Deputy Design Team.

I’ve overcome fears, faced leadership obstacles, made plenty of mistakes, and received critical feedback.

These experiences have shaped who I am and how I lead.

I lead with love. I choose to be fearlessly kind and vulnerable at work. Leaning into these values helps me develop meaningful relationships and empower others to be successful.

Leadership Values

🌈

Encourage Vulnerability

I’m open and transparent in my aspirations, mistakes, and learnings. This encourages others to share concerns, discuss challenges, suggest ideas, give healthy feedback, and of course, celebrate the wins! Inclusive, safe work environments empower people to step outside of their comfort zone and learn new things.

🤝

Embrace Collaboration

I value an inclusive design process and collaborative work environment so that everyone stays aligned and driving towards the same goal. Listening to different perspectives, learning from peers, understanding different motivations helps build genuine relationships based on trust.

😍

Be Fearlessly Kind

I’m not afraid to show compassion and shed the occasional tear in difficult situations. In fact, I prioritise practicing empathy every day. Regularly checking in on how others are feeling, supporting professional and personal goals, and taking the time to celebrate big milestones helps people feel valued and supported at work.

💪

Take Risks

I used to be scared about not having all the answers and saying the wrong thing. But over the years I’ve realised that making mistakes and experiencing challenges not only builds resilience and confidence but creates an opportunity for discovery and transformation. As Nike would say, I’ve learned to “just do it”.

From Designer to Design Leader

Over the past 10 years, I’ve journeyed from being a full-stack designer to a senior design leader at one of Australia’s most exciting scale-ups.
